Ports of Auckland has launched Supply Chain Carbon Calculator

news-details

Ports of Auckland has launched Supply Chain Carbon Calculator – an amazing web tool which lets importers and exporters calculate the carbon emissions released by their freight when travelling to or from North Island ports by road or rail.

This is important for freight owners who care about the planet and want to operate a sustainable business. Increasingly, businesses want and need to know the carbon cost of their activity, and this tool will help. We are THE low carbon port if you are importing goods to the Auckland region or sending Auckland exports overseas - and the Carbon Calculator proves it.

The concept was created in 2018, as part of our supply chain strategy to give additional value to our customers. It’s impressive – you can select whether you are importing or exporting a container, the approximate weight, and then drop a pin on the map. The calculator then displays the various modal options (road, rail and empty container repositioning), along with the associated carbon emissions for each option. The carbon emission calculation is based on the tonnes of container cargo travelled per km. It’s a great innovation and we’re the only port in New Zealand that has it.

It is available on our website so that everyone can use it. We are proud to have created such a useful and sophisticated supply chain emissions tool which will help Auckland businesses to reduce their environmental impact.

So, give it a go! Use your company address to work out the carbon cost of delivering a container from Ports of Auckland – and then compare that to the cost of bringing it via other ports.
